(More customer reviews)This Sylvania LED Childrens 3-in-1 Powerfailure Emergency Back Up Light is part of the 'PalPODzzz' nightlight series. I have previously tested the 'Lady Bug' model and was highly impressed, which is why I went back and grabbed this 'Soccer Ball' model as well.
Both models in this series have the same basic design, consisting of:
- a base unit (charging station), and
- a top unit (detachable flashlight).
They are both meant to be placed on a nightstand or desk, instead of like most other nightlights which are plugged directly into AC outlets.
Both models have the same functions:
- As a nightlight, both base and top units glow softly in the dark.
- The flashlight comes on automatically in case of power failure, or when the flashlight is removed from charging station.
There is one important difference, however:
- The Lady Bug model base unit has a thick AC cord coming out, which plugs into 110V AC outlet.
- The Soccer Ball model uses an external AC adapter to convert 110V to 5V DC. The base unit is connected to the 5V DC through a thinner cord.
Both models are very good. Personally, I prefer the Lady Bug design because the flashlight is easier to hold by small hands. But for people who are EXTREMELY safety conscious, the Soccer Ball model is a better choice. This is because its charging station is powered by 5V DC, so there is no danger of electric shock even if it is cracked open, or submerged in water. (Not that you should subject any electrical appliances to this kind of abuse, of course)
