(More customer reviews)I used this pan to make a basketball cake for my son's birthday party last year. It took a lot longer to bake than I expected (nearly an hour), but my yellow cake mix ended up having the texture of a fluffy pound cake. It tasted and "felt" very professional because of the texture. It came out of the pan perfectly, and the large lip on one side of the pan made it very easy to get it out of the oven. The cake was nice and large, yielding at least 15 servings if not more.
While the pan itself has markings for a soccer ball, the instructors include designs for a basketball and baseball (a soccer ball is harder, so the marking for that make it much easier to do). It was very easy to make it a basketball, and kids and parents alike were very impressed with the results.
This pan could be used to make anything that would be a half dome, like a planet, the moon, a disco ball, beach ball, etc. If you were crazy enough, you could make two batches and put them together with popsicle sticks to make a giant ball. Regardless, I would definitely recommend this pan!
