(More customer reviews)Disclaimer: I bought mine directly from Turtle Island Imports before I saw that they were available here. The price here is a little better. The selection at Turtle Island is a little better.
Also, I don't use them for hacky sack, so I can't speak to how well they hold up when kicked around. I use them as knickknacks on a shelf, for juggling, and for playing catch with the grandkids.
About 20 years ago, I saw them in a sporting goods store near the cash register - one of those impulse purchases. I bought 6. I think they were about $2 each. For a long time, I had them sitting in my office in a little pyramid because they are colorful and people ask about them. I would occasionally take three of them to practice juggling as a distraction. They are perfect for juggling.
A few years ago, the grandchildren started appearing. One day, I looked at them in the office and it occurred to me that the grandkids might like them. I brought them home and built the little pyramid on a shelf in the family room. They were noticed immediately and we had a fun day teaching the kids (and their parents) to juggle. And, being kids, they quickly invented other games to play with them including a multi-player game of catch and a faux Easter egg hunt. Now, I will move them around the house and it's a bit of a game for them to find them when they come over.
I bought the 12-pack to give to the grandkids to take home. I'll probably buy more from time to time. They are the perfect size for little hands. They are firm enough to throw and catch, but soft enough that they don't mind getting bonked on the head if they don't catch them and if they throw them in the house before I can stop them, they are not too likely to break anything. These belong in every toy box.
There are a lot of what appear to be similar products on Amazon. Since I bought mine elsewhere, I cannot speak to the exact product. Some of the cheaper products do not have good reviews, so I suggest you check those before buying. The ones from Turtle Island Imports are made in Guatemala and are good quality.
There is a set of 25, also from Turtle Island Imports, for $55 ($2.20 each). See Set of 25 Hacky Sacks, Assorted Colors. I paid $30 for a set of 12 ($2.50 each).
There is a set of 12 for $15 ($1.25 each) from a different distributor. See 12 hackey sacks knitted kick balls toy hacky sack set of 12 and others.
The ones I bought from Turtle Island Imports appear to be of the same excellent quality as the ones that I bought 20 years ago. Time will tell. They are going to get rougher treatment from the grandkids than they did sitting on the shelf in my office. I cannot speak to the quality from other suppliers.
My main purpose in posting this review is to let parents and grandparents know how much fun these are with kids. I bought the assorted colors set. It's a nice assortment. Unless you have a need for a specific design, like the soccer balls, I'd recommend the assortment.
